unnamed 3Marty Giaimo is a native New Yorker who graduated from the High School of the Performing Arts (46 th street) and then proceeded to attend Manhattan School of Music, where he received a B.A. Degree in Clarinet Performance.

While working on becoming a classical clarinetist, he also focused on his jazz studies as a Tenor Saxophonist.

He was able to study with the world famous woodwind teacher, Joe Allard.

He continued his studies at Manhattan School of Music and pursued a Master’s Degree in Music Education. This led him to begin his 32 year career as a middle school music educator/band director for the NYC Board of Education. Conducting concerts bands, jazz ensembles, and 100+ member marching bands with pride and dedication for perfection led him to be nominated several times for Who’s Who in America’s Teachers as well as a 2- time recipient of the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation Award and the 2019 NY Senator Andrew Lanza Outstanding Music Educator of the Year Award.

In the interim of conducting and educating youth, he performed in many bands including Big Bands, 50’s, Motown, wedding bands as well as participating in multiple saxophone quartets.

Upon his retirement from teaching in July of 2019, Marty wanted to focus on his love of musical performance. He has also lead a very successful musical duo for the last 20 years as a Clarinetist / Saxophonist performing dinner music in restaurants and entertaining private parties. He hopes his love and passion for music will continue to bring joy to others for many years to come.
